Heather is to make a Keynote speech at the Food Matters Summit in London on 20th November.

Food Matters Summit believes that sharing the very best new thinking will inspire industry leaders and accelerate innovation across this complex sector. It spans three curated streams and will bring together international speakers and delegates in a unique education and networking experience.

Heather has been invited to be part of a session titled It’s Carnage - the Vegans are the ultimate disruptors.

Statistics show that around a third of Britons are reducing the amount of meat they eat or cutting it out altogether. This is consumer disruption on a large scale, providing enormous opportunity for food producers and food technologists. This session explores the exciting future for plant-based food business, and highlights the innovators. Will they be known as ‘Big Food’ by 2067?

Fast Forward is an original conference where a select group of international speakers and thinkers from across business, industry and academia come together to challenge the future of tomorrow.

Last year Heather was invited to speak at the Fast Forward Forum in St Tropez.

This year she has been invited to become an ambassador. Becoming part of the ultimate anti-conference sharing the stage: where what you say will make a difference and shape the conversation. Over the course of 72 hours in Venice get intimately involved in the discussion of the most important topics facing business and society today, including AI and Blockchain, the future of work, health, innovation, leadership, mobility and social responsibility.

Keynote speech at the Bread & Jam Festival, London

Heather has been invited to give a 30 minute keynote talk at the ‘Bread & Jam’ Festival held at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall, London on the 3 October 2019 at 12noon. 

Previous speakers have included the founders of Innocent, Graze, Green & Blacks, Rebel Kitchen, Planet Organic, Pearlfisher, head of food at Ocado, CEO of Vita Coco, the editor of the Grocer and many others.

‘Bread & Jam’ is an annual 2 day conference and bootcamp for emerging and scaling food and drink brands, bringing together food and drink founders and innovators, investors, media and industry leaders. The event has a ground-breaking programme of panel discussions, inspirational keynotes, hands-on workshops and mentoring sessions focused on accelerating independent food and drink brands with bold aspirations.  

Heather will address an audience of emerging and scaling food and drink brand owners telling her story as well as delivering her insights and perspectives on the future of plant-based foods.

Viva! river cruise

As a long-standing patron of Viva! – the vegan charity. Heather has been invited to speak at their 25th anniversary celebratory dinner river cruise on the 18th September 2019. This will be first fundraising dinner in five years and is a very special occasion. Other speakers include Michael Mansfield QC, Peter Egan and others TBA soon!

Heather was invited by the North East England Chamber of Commerce to be the Keynote Speaker at the 2019 President’s Club Lunch.

Hosted on 11th July at Beamish Hall Hotel, County Durham the event was attended by the region’s most senior business leaders. 

This well-established date in the region’s business calendar takes place three times a year, at different times and locations across the North East. 

President’s Club members are the largest and most influential employers in this region who, collectively, employ over 25% of the region’s workforce. They include household names, universities, colleges and successful businesses from every industry sector. Attracting an audience of around 200, the invitees are the most senior leaders within their respective organisations. Previous speakers include Nicola Sturgeon, Lord Adonis, Nigel Wilson (CEO of Legal & General), HRH Prince Edward and Sir John Major. 

Attendees received a high-level speech with Heather focussing on her story, her achievements, as well as the growth of her innovative plant-based food company VBites.

Recognised as a ‘Master of Change’ Heather was invited by Coutts Bank to deliver a keynote speech on how vegan investments are creating new jobs and having a positive impact on both the environment and the business landscape. 

In times of uncertainty, it is entrepreneurs who embrace change and find a path to new opportunities. In 2019, as political and economic volatility continues, Coutts are holding a nationwide series of events to spotlight how entrepreneurs across the country are managing the challenges and seizing the opportunities of change.

The ‘Prosper through Change’ evening was held on 9th July at 1 Trinity Gardens, Broad Chare, Quayside, Newcastle. Heather shared her experiences and insights into the growth of sustainably produced, healthy Vegan food.

The event was an intimate dinner, with approximately 30 guests attending and Heather’s speech was followed by questions and answers sessions during each course of the dinner.

The VBites team team also provided plant-based tasty canapés of Vegan Coronation Chicken and Hoisin Vegan duck wraps. Attendees commented on their amazing quality and how they couldn’t tell the difference between VBites plant-based alternatives and meat.

The Future of plant-based proteins was a one-day conference that brought together plant-based protein experts from across the globe to present a range of topics on the growing trend, as well as how it will influence the future opportunities of the international meat sector.

The Plant Protein Conference was hosted by Global Meat News and held at the Marriott Hotel in Amsterdam.

Heather joined 12 other global speakers for the event, who delivered findings, facts and analysis on the development of the plant-based protein sector and how it may influence the future international meat industry.

Held annually, the Shopware Community Day informs E-Commerce enthusiasts from across Europe about the current state – and future – of digital commerce.

Shopware Community Day celebrated its 9th year and with more than 2,500 visitors, 50 Speakers and 40 exhibitors expected and was one of the biggest E-Commerce events in Germany with the event taking place at the Landscape Park (Landschaftspark) in Duisburg.

At 14.00 Heather delivered a keynote speech on the Inspiration Stage, which will address the current dilemma with farmers. Entitled “From farmer to plate – E-Commerce benefits every area of business” delegates joined Heather on a journey discovering which technological, scientific and social trends are driving E-Commerce, along with the solutions being developed today that will shape the business models of the future.

Shopware presented heather with a surprise cheque for €10,000 to go towards her charities and social projects.

This year’s Viva Vegan festival was on the 18th of May in Birmingham and celebrated the 25th anniversary of Viva. Heather has been a long-standing patron of Viva working with Julliet Gellatley for many years, so was invited to give a speech at the event.

Many manufacturers are starting to realise the future is plant-based with no animal cruelty, however many of them are claiming to be vegan and are not, or, confuse the consumer by putting vegan next to one of their products duping the consumer to believe all of the products are vegan. Attendees learned what makes make-up not vegan, how to avoid these products and how to encourage manufacturers to steer clear of them.

Delegates came to New Bingley Hall, and indulged in the most delicious food and vegan delicacies and shop for ethical clothing, cruelty-free cosmetics and much more! There was also free nutritional advice and all the information you need to follow a vegan lifestyle. Whether you're vegan, veggie, or just V-curious.

Heather’s brand new VEGAN cosmetic brand Be At One was launched at the event showcasing some incredible products.

Peterlee Young Heroes award ceremony 10th May 2019

Ian Morris, the Chief Officer at Peterlee Town Council invited Heather to give an inspiring speech at the Inaugural Young Heroes Awards 2019. This event focussed on young people and their families in Peterlee and Durham on the 10th May 2019 at the Town Council at Shotton Hall.

In 2018 the Police, Town Council, Groundwork UK (a leading youth engagement charity) and a few other local partners launched the inaugural Young Heroes Awards to much local celebration.

VBites Foods purchased the ex Walkers Crisps in 2018 and their aim is to support hundreds of local people with jobs in the area. 

The event was not only be attended by the young people and their families of Peterlee but also local dignitaries from agencies such as the Police, Councils, NHS, etc. Last years guests included Perrie Edwards from Little Mix and England rugby player Ellie Pickford.

Heather was in Milan on the 7th of May speaking at Seeds&Chips, the leading food innovation summit in the world. Heather spoke on a panel with Maria Helena Semedo and Angel Leon in front of 300 people regarding the theme ‘Healthy and Sustainable Diets For All’. The session started approximately at 10.00, in “Future” conference hall. There was an audience with an introduction by Rajiv Shah, president of the Rockefeller Foundation.

The event had 12,000 visitors, 300 speakers, 50 events and 600 meetings; creating discussion about agriculture and the importance of sustainability. Previous speakers at this event include Barack H. Obama, John Ceery, Nathan Myhrvold and Howard Schultz. Other speakers at the event include Alec Baldwin, Susan Rockefeller and Kerry Kennedy.

Heather was invited by Janez Potocnik, chairman of FFA, Forum For Agriculture, 2019 to be a Keynote speaker in Brussels, Belgium - The Next Generation event on the 9th of April 2019. Heather’s 30 minute speech discussed VBites Foods, veganism and the future of plant based foods in the agriculture industry. The audience included people from the European Parliament, Council and Commission, Businesses, institutes and NGOs. This important event combined agriculture and environment, enabling open dialogue to create sustainable solutions.

Heather’s speech started at 2pm (GMT) and lasted 30 minutes, following on with an interactive Q&A with the audience, hosted by Femi Oke

Heather said:

"My key role in life is problem-solving unsolvable things that people think are problematic, but there are simple solutions. We had the answers 25 years ago, let's not be here in the next 10 years in the same situation and lets minimise the devastation on the marine eco system."

Heather concluded that:

"The simple solution for solving a number of issues is that every single person goes vegan."

My journey into plant-based foods

“When I became a vegan over 25 years ago, I was like most people, ignorant of the harm I was doing to myself, the animals and the planet. Until more recently it seems the majority of people became vegan because of one of these reasons. Mine was health.”

“This motivated me to start to develop meat, fish and dairy free alternatives that actually tasted great. Initially I started with soy protein as this was readily available and a complete amino acid, but as time passed I started to work with pea protein combined with oat, then algal oils, thinking this could be grown in Europe by farmers to move them away from the heavily subsidised dairy industry. From these varieties of proteins my team and I developed over 130 exact replication of meat, fish and dairy alternate products for parallel eating.”

Heather was on the panel discussion at the International Food and Drink Exhibition in London.

This panel discussion titled ‘The Role of Protein in Plant-Based Product Innovation’ covered the diverse market alongside Robert Woodall, Carole Bingley and Tiia Morsky. This exciting panel discussion took place between 1:30pm and 2:15 on the 17th of March 2019 and people asked questions about the future of plant-based foods.

Heather’s award winning vegan food company VBites Foods exhibited showcasing their new allergen free coconut delicious new vegan cheeses; Edam Style, Pepperjack Style, Blue Style, Red and White Style Cheddar, Hard Italian Style, Mozzarella and three super melting cheeses. The delicious VBites plant-based burgers, sausages and minced meat were also out for people to try and people said things such as “the taste is incredible” and “It tastes so similar to real meat. I can’t believe it”.

The discussion covered the opportunities for plant-based food, challenges and the importance of the growth of this market. Heather’s vegan food company VBites Foods attended this event showcasing our delicious new vegan cheeses, burgers, sausages and minced meat. Some of Heather’s investment companies through VBites Ventures also attended, including One Plant Pizza, Love Seitan and Mlk Man.
