Get Your Skates On - Team work and Team building

My dance partner, Matt Evers, and I are launching a new team building Ice skating activity for corporate companies to improve team performance, build trust and motivation.

The idea behind it stems from our training from Dancing on Ice. When practising for the show, Matt and I had to trust one another immensely to enable us to perform the ice skating moves, positions and lifts. It goes for most team sports and corporate teams, and it's prolific in something like Ice skating where you rely on your partner so heavily.

Team building in corporate settings have been done in many weird and wacky ways, from simple activities like board games and to the extreme like tandem skydiving. It encourages individuals in companies to know one another outside a work settings, this gives a platform for more trusting relationships to be built.

Corporate activities and team building highlight personality traits, for example if someone is a natural leader within a workforce. This can be beneficial for a company as it can help in placing people in suitable roles, programmes and departments. It will enable a team to find a natural group dynamic. This may be used to reiterate the dynamic that is already in place or to establish a new one.

The ice Skating programme we have put together will encourage workforces to practise skills that you often forget you use on a day to day basis. Things like following instructions, absorbing information and conveying your message effectively are all strengths that can be essential to a team situation both on the ice and in an office.

Matt and I will take teams on to the ice and go through a series of exercises that encourage individuals to interact with one another. Depending on how quickly the techniques are picked up will decipher the level of difficulty we will take the moves to.  Not only will this be an excellent team building exercise for corporate companies, it will also be great fun for everyone involved.
