Heather has focused most of her work on the eradication of landmines and survivor assistance for over 15years. No More Landmines is a campaign that raises awareness and funds to clear landmines and rehabilitate landmine survivors. Heather brought the programme to the UK from the United States, and it was because of her experience that the No More Landmines mission was expanded to include survivor assistance.
Landmines kill or injure someone, somewhere, every half hour of every day. No More Landmines gives everyone an opportunity to stop this: it costs only about £1 to clear a square metre of land or £50 to help a child walk
again. Individuals, community groups, company's can adopt a whole minefield or a survivor assistance project. Every little donation helps. Smaller donations are added together to make a whole adoption. Every donation receives updates about 'their adopted' project, which makes the results of your donation very tangible.
Since Heather's involvement in the war in the former Yugoslavia in 1991, the combined efforts of Heather and her team have raised over $18.5 million (over £9.8 million) to date and cleared over 21.5 million square metres of land with more being currently cleared. 64 landmine survivor projects have been funded through $2 million of funding to 70 survivor assistance projects run by 25 different organizations.
So go on... join Heather in her cause and make a difference! For more information and to get involved, visit http://www.landmines.org.uk/ or call 020 7471 5580 in the UK and http://www.landmines.org/ in the US..
